When it comes to choosing the right wheelchair cushion, one size certainly does not fit all. Your individual needs, lifestyle, and priorities—your personal "thumbprint"— should drive the decision.
At Permobil, we understand that every individual’s journey is unique, and we’re here to help guide you to find the best solution for your body.
Why your thumbprint matters
Your "thumbprint" represents your personal set of priorities, such as comfort, skin protection, and stability. No two people have the same needs, and what works for one person might not work for another. By aligning cushion performance to your thumbprint, you ensure the solution fits you—not the other way around.
Your priorities are your thumbprint
Take a moment and consider if you would choose these areas as a low priority, a typical priority, or a high priority when it comes to your specific seating needs.
- Stability & balance: based on the support you need to feel stable
- Pain & comfort: based on your comfort needs
- Durability: based on your experience & the cushion medium (what the cushion is made out of)
- Positioning & posture: based on your postural needs and ISO test data
- Skin protection: based on your skin integrity needs and ISO test data
- Transfers: based on your experience and the cushion medium
How would you prioritize each of these areas?
Tools to Make the Right Choice
ISO testing standards are critical tools that help provide measurable and consistent data about wheelchair cushion performance. We talked about wheelchair cushion options and ISO test standards in a previous blog, but it’s important to note that selecting a cushion isn’t about finding the "best" in general terms—it’s about finding the best for you.
