In this edition of Permobil Portraits, we delve into the journey of Rhonda Clark, a resilient individual whose independence and zest for life are fueled by her mobility devices and unwavering determination.
Childhood Adventures in Green Bay
My upbringing in Green Bay, Wisconsin, was marked by both community ties and personal challenges. Born premature with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, weighing only 2 pounds 3 ounces, my early days were touch and go. Despite being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, I've always held onto the belief that I have Cerebral Palsy, but it doesn't have me.
During my childhood, I cherished the excitement of cheering on the Packers at Lambeau Field and creating lasting memories at Easter Seals summer camp.
Pursuing Dreams After High School
After high school, I eagerly pursued my passion for communication at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The support of incredible professors and mentors fueled my academic journey, while attending UWGB Phoenix Basketball games added a welcome dose of excitement to my college experience.
Following graduation, I took a bold step and relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. Within a week and a half of leaving UWGB, I found myself with a one-day opportunity at the Country Music Association. Later, I expanded my skill set by studying medical billing and coding at Nashville State Community College.
Life's Greatest Treasures
My maternal grandfather's wisdom has been a guiding light throughout my life. We were really close and I know he is watching over me. His words—"Go after what you want, make a difference, believe in God, and you will be okay"—resonate deeply within me, and I strive to embody those principles every single day.
Today, I find joy in listening to music, writing letters, experimenting in the kitchen, and sharing meaningful conversations with friends. And by my side through it all is Ice III, my faithful service assistance dog from Canine Companions.
Passion and Pride
Advocacy has become my life's passion. From advocating for my own independence to championing the rights of others, I am committed to making a difference. Whether it's navigating life since my senior year of high school or achieving academic success, my journey is a testament to the power of perseverance.
Permobil Products
My Permobil F5 Corpus VS, ROHO AirLite Cushion, and BraunAbility converted Toyota Sienna XLe are the vital mobility equipment that empowers me to live independently and contribute to my community. Without my mobility equipment or my service dog, I would not be able to navigate the world with confidence and determination.
